New Entry: Scrumptious Cupcakes!

Some days ago, one of my beloved Greek friends here in Liverpool, Artemis, ordered 36 cupcakes for a special event she wanted to celebrate.  Artemis and Baking Queens jointly decided on the cupcake flavours.  The final decision was: a dozen of Raspberry Cupcakes,

 

a dozen of Earl Grey cupcakes with lemon buttercream combining the refreshing taste of Earl Grey tea with the delicate citrus flavour

 

and a dozen of a classic flavour, that of vanilla with chocolate chips!

 

Thank you for the order! Hope your friends really enjoyed them!

Graduation cookies!

Baking Queens made these delicious cookies as a graduation favor for all Year 6 Bishop Martin students. Congratulations to all of them and may this school year (Year 7) be a challenging one with many new friends and experiences!

What is the connection?

What is the connection between Myasteroskoni and Baking Queens? Is it the same or are they two different companies?

Well...Myasteroskoni is the original name of this blog and that is how people know us in Greece. All business done in Greece is under this name.

On the other hand, all business done in the UK is under the business name Baking Queens.  Baking Queens is located in Liverpool, UK in a private rented house used as a food business.  It is a small scale production of home baked goods, namely cupcakes and shaped biscuits iced with sugar paste/fondant icing for direct sale to the public via page/food blog.

On the 18th of June 2015, after food hygiene inspection in Baking Queens premises, Liverpool City Council confirmed a rating of 5!

For our non-greek friends...the story behind...Bake-Make-Decorate!

For all of you who are not Greek, you may be wondering what "MyAsteroskoni" is all about...Well, let me give you a little bit of information. "MyAsteroskoni" in Greek, means My Stardust.  In this small business, three girls bake yummy cookies, make wonderful handmade crafts and decorate themed parties and events!  Behind the scenes are three girls - two of them live in Thessaloniki (Greece's second biggest city) and the third has recently moved to Liverpool.  It took us some time, but after a long and careful thought, we wondered..." why not transfer MyAsteroskoni to Liverpool too, and let Liverpudlians taste the delicous cookies?"

So, as of today, all posts in our blog will be written in both Greek and English and therefore, if you would like to follow us, you can do this by following our page in Facebook.

Μπουκίτσες! Cookie Bites!

Είμαι γλυκατζού, αυτό να λέγεται! Από μικρό κοριτσάκι ακόμα, θυμάμαι ότι όταν έμπαινα σε ζαχαροπλαστείο, άστραφτε το μάτι μου! Και αυτό που πάντα μου τραβούσε την προσοχή ήταν οτιδήποτε γλυκό αλλά σε μικρό μέγεθος. Μου άρεσαν πάντα τα παστάκια παρά οι πάστες (εκλεράκια, ταρτάκια, κοκάκια), τα μικρά σε μέγεθος σιροπιαστά (τουλουμπάκια, ροξάκια κτλ) και οτιδήποτε σε σοκολατάκι, μπισκοτάκι είχε το μέγεθος της μπουκίτσας!  

Τις μπουκίτσες τις βρίσκω πιο συμπαθητικές!  Είναι πιο συμμαζεμένες, πιο λεπτεπίλεπτες, πιο σικάτες.  Και παίρνεις και την γλύκα αλλά σε μικρότερη ποσότητα θερμιδών!  Έτσι και για τα μπισκότα, προσωπικά τρελαίνομαι για τις μπουκίτσες.  Δείτε μερικές φωτογραφίες και πείτε μου, έχω άδικο;  Αν θέλετε και εσείς να παραγγείλετε για τα βαφτίσια του παιδιού σας ή τον γάμο σας ή για δωράκι σε πάρτυ, στείλτε email στο myasteroskoni3@gmail.com(ισχύει και για Ελλάδα και για Αγγλία)

Την μόνη εξαίρεση που θα έκανα ώστε να προτιμήσω το μεγαλύτερο μέγεθος είναι για το κουρκουμπίνι.  Έχω μια ιδιαίτερη λατρεία στα κουρκουμπίνια και πάντα αναρωτιόμουν γιατί στο συγκεκριμένο γλυκό δεν υπάρχει η ΚΟΥΡΚΟΥΜΠΙΝΑ! Μήπως την έχετε ανακαλύψει εσείς κάπου;

I have always been a dessert lover, that's for sure! Since I was a little girl, I remember myself going into a pastry shop and having this feeling of excitement!  And what has always grabbed my attention in pastry shops, were small bites rather than big pieces of pastries.

For me, bites are adorable! Not only are they cuter but they also are more attractive and most importantly, they save you loads of calories!  That is why I prefer cookie bites instead of big cookies! How do you find my homemade cookie bites? Do you like them?

Packed in a clear cellophane bag, you can offer them as party favors, wedding favors or even as baptism favors. Διακόσμηση με σημαιάκια! Bunting decoration!

Το δωμάτιο του γιου μου, στο σπίτι που νοικιάζουμε στο Λίβερπουλ, είναι αρκετά μεγάλο, ευήλιο, με λίγα όμως και λιτά έπιπλα από το ΙΚΕΑ (τα πιο βασικά) πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι μεγάλη επιφάνεια των τοίχων μένει άδεια με αποτέλεσμα το δωμάτιο να χρειάζεται λιγάκι "χρώμα" γιατί δείχνει πολύ απρόσωπο.  

Σκέφτηκα λοιπόν να του φτιάξω μια κατασκευή από ύφασμα ώστε να γεμίσουμε τον ένα τοίχο με ένα κάτιτις.  Εδώ και τέσσερις βδομάδες έχω ξεκινήσει μαθήματα ραπτικής οπότε ευκαιρία ήταν να χρησιμοποιήσω τις αμέτρητες γνώσεις μου (χα!χα!).  

Έτσι, πριν λίγες μέρες, έκανα τις απαραίτητες αγορές και γύρισα σπίτι για να ξεκινήσω το project μου.  Στο σημείο αυτό θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω την Αρτεμούλα που μου έχει δανείσει την ραπτομηχανή της και έτσι μπορώ και κάνω πράξη τις ιδέες μου! Το project αποφάσισα να είναι μια γιρλάντα από υφασμάτινα σημαιάκια.

Διάλεξα δύο διαφορετικά υφάσματα γιατί ήθελα να υπάρχει εναλλαγή μιας και είχα να καλύψω περίπου 2 μέτρα μήκος στον τοίχο. Σας αρέσουν;

Κάθισα στο μικρό μου γραφειάκι και έπιασα δουλειά! Ήθελα να το έχω έτοιμο και κρεμασμένο στον τοίχο, πριν ο μικρός γυρίσει από το σχολείο του.  Έκοψα, γάζωσα, ξεγάζωσα γιατί γάζωσα λάθος(!) αλλά στο τέλος νομίζω κάτι κάναμε!!!

Ο Απόστολος το καταχάρηκε και εγώ μαζί του ομολογώ...τώρα θέλει και η κόρη μου γιατί "δεν είναι δίκαιο να έχει μόνο ο Απόστολος" και έτσι από βδομάδα θα κατέβω να αγοράσω υφάσματα για την Φαίδρα!

My son's room in our house in Liverpool is quite big and sunny but rather empty and dull.  The fact that it has just the necessary furniture and also the fact that there is nothing hanging on the walls makes it seem impersonal. So, I thought about it and I decided to make something beautiful that will add some colour to his room. 

These days I am attending a course in Greenbank College, Introduction to Sewing, so I asked myself "why not do a project that needs a litte bit of sewing?"  

I went to Abakhan and picked up two different pieces of fabric and whatever else might be of use and went back home ready to start! I wanted to finish my bunting before my son Apostolos came back from school.  I sat at my small desk, cut the triangles, did the sewing and the ironing and...there we are! 

My bunting is now hanging on Apostolos's wall and guess what? My daughter has already given me her order because as she claimed "it's not fair! I want one, too!"

Myasteroskoni goes to Liverpool

Η Myasteroskoni "γεννήθηκε" και "ανδρώθηκε" στην Θεσσαλονίκη πριν κάμποσα χρόνια από τρεις καλές φίλες και μετέπειτα κουμπάρες και αγαπήθηκε από καλούς φίλους, γνωστούς αλλά και αγνώστους για τα υπέροχα και πεντανόστιμα μπισκότα της, για τα θεματικά πάρτυ της αλλά και για τις λαμπάδες και όλα τα καλούδια που κατά εποχές καταπιάνεται.

Το καλοκαίρι του 2014 η μία από τις τρεις φίλες μετακόμισε στην Αγγλία και έτσι πολλοί σκέφτηκαν ότι η Myasteroskoni θα χάσει λίγη από την μαγική της σκόνη.  Όχι μόνο αυτό δεν έγινε αλλά πλέον τα μπισκότα της "χτυπάνε" την πόρτα και της Αγγλίας.

"Όταν μετακόμισα στο Λίβερπουλ, η αλλαγή ήταν τόσο μεγάλη και το μυαλό μου έτρεχε σε μικρά και μεγάλα ζητήματα που έπρεπε να τακτοποιηθούν οπότε το να σκέφτομαι για μία Myasteroskoni Αγγλίας ήταν μονάχα στη σφαίρα της φαντασίας" μας εξομολογείται η Φ. "Με τον καιρό τα πράγματα μπήκαν σε κανονικούς ρυθμούς και τότε ήταν που σιγά σιγά άρχισε να γεννιέται η σπίθα του να αρχίσω να φτιάχνω πάλι μπισκότα...Ακόμα όμως δεν ήμουν έτοιμη...Όχι τη μία μου έφταιγε το βούτυρο, όχι την άλλη μου έφταιγε το αλεύρι, όχι δεν είχα τα κουπάτ, όχι το ένα όχι το άλλο, οι δικαιολογίες έπεφταν βροχή ώστε να μην κάνω το βήμα. Ανασφάλεια, αβεβαιότητα...ποιος ξέρει;"  "Ώσπου έφτασε το τέλος Απριλίου και ο γιος μου αναρωτήθηκε τι μπισκότα θα κεράσει φέτος για τα γενέθλιά του στην τάξη του την αγγλική"  

Αυτό ήταν! Το κουπάτ μπήκε σε παραγγελία, οι ζαχαρόπαστες ανακαλύφθηκαν στα ράφια του Tesco, το βούτυρο αγελάδος βρέθηκε και το αγγλικό βρωμο-αλεύρι (που έως τώρα έτρωγε το κράξιμο της ζωής του) έκανε τη δουλειά του!

Αύριο ο Απόστολος κλείνει τα 8 του χρόνια και μαζί του κλείνει και η μαμά του 8 μήνες στην Αγγλία.  Έτσι έχουμε διπλή γιορτή. Τα γενέθλια του μικρού και την έναρξη(;) της Myasteroskoni UK. Who knows?
